The Church in France
The Church in France needs our support as it faces a wave of unbelief and negativity. The anti-church sentiments are very strong in France. A very small percentage of the population are believers. The French people are suspicious of anything related to church or God. France has a long history of religious wars and corrupt religious leaders. The clergy had strong ties with the monarchy and after the French Revolution the Church was something to be free from, just as they had been set free from ungodly kings.
Now in France, humanism has been exalted as the rule of law. It is considered as the pure religion that is anti-war and gives equality to all. It is the Utopia of mankind and is the answer for all our ills. I once heard a Frenchman say to me concerning the severe problems and evils of our day that his confidence was in man. The core of humanism. Something that permeates French society.
The French Church is really swimming up stream against this ingrained world view. This is why we believe one of our top priorities is to support this church in its struggle.
