Summer With French Family In France
Naomi Brunz, High School Student - Sioux Falls, South Dakota:
We have been approached this year to host a teenage girl from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Naomi Brunz. She would like to improve her French and get to know the French people. Naomi will be spending sometime with the Metreau Family who have two teenage girls and a young son. We told Naomi that this is the best way to use the language and learn about the French culture. Below you can read Naomi's Story why she wanted to come to France.
Naomi's Story: Rêver de France...As a little girl I dreamt of someday strolling the Riviera and shopping on the streets of Paris. Unfortunately, though, my life was far from perfect and far from God. In seventh grade, I surrendered all my bitterness and was fulfilled with promises of a will for my life. It was the beginning of my servitude for Christ and the beginning of new dreams. In the summer before high school, my life felt like it was in crisis mode. I had put my heart and joy in relationships that didn't last, on self-serving dreams, and accomplishments that meant nothing. My sister woke me up one morning telling me of a dream she had. She saw me dancing and rejoicing on a map of France and proclaiming the souls for Christ. The next night, I had a similar dream of me speaking in French and praying for the nation. It was at this time that I realized that France was not just a country of fashion, liberal views, beautiful statues and chateaus, but it was a country in need. Ever since, I have felt called to serve, sacrifice, and fight alongside the Christians there. I started learning the French language as a ninth grader in school, and instantly fell in love with the language. I am in my third year learning presently, and still have the same passion. Next year - my last in high school - I will be taking French at a highly ranked college. I also plan on majoring in French and European History throughout college and see where the Lord leads me from there. Right now I'm anxiously awaiting my journey in La Rochelle, France, for the months of July and August of 2007. I am immensely blessed by the openness of Jim and Michelle Vernon and the support from my family and church. I hope to bless everyone that I encounter, and serve as much as possible where God leads me.
